Low sulfur graphite, also known as GPC Graphit Petroleum Coke, is a type of petroleum coke with a sulfur content of less than 0.05%. This type of graphite is one of the carbon materials used in the production of various iron-based alloys such as steels and ductile irons, as well as in alloy coatings that require low sulfur.

The very low sulfur content in this graphite prevents structural changes in the alloy. In addition to its use in foundry industries, it is also used in the plastics and rubber industries. Alongside sulfur, nitrogen is another element present in low sulfur graphite, ranging from PPM200 to PPM300. The graphitization temperature of this graphite is between 2500 to 3500 degrees Celsius.

The production of low sulfur graphite or graphitized petroleum coke is achieved through various reactions of petroleum coke in graphite furnaces at temperatures between 2500 to 3500 degrees Celsius. This product, due to its high carbon percentage and lower sulfur content, is used as the best carbon additive for melting operations in the steel industry. The carbonization of this product with low sulfur improves the nucleation of graphite in molten steel and iron, enhancing its performance and stability.
