Low Carbon Ferro Manganese or LC Ferro Manganese is one of the ferroalloys characterized by high manganese content (between 75 to 85 percent) and a maximum of 0.3 percent carbon. It is used in the steel and cast iron foundry industries and in the production of electrodes. The appearance of low carbon ferro manganese is usually gray and it is available in lump or powdered form. This type of ferro manganese is especially used in parts where a high carbon percentage would alter the structure of steel or casting parts. In steel melts, ferro manganese is used to remove sulfur and improve the mechanical properties of steel by reacting with impurities such as sulfur and nitrogen, thereby incorporating them into the slag.
