Gyratory Crusher (Superior)
The first type of Gyratory Crusher or Superior Crusher was built in 1878. This crusher is used as a primary crusher in large installations and in cases where capacity and possibly the crushing ratio are more than jaw crushers. The Gyratory Crusher consists of a fixed conical body and a central core that has a gyratory movement (a rotational movement around an axis that itself moves).
The angle between the fixed body and the moving core is 22 to 30 degrees. The desired materials are crushed in the space between the fixed body and the moving core. During the time when the moving core is approaching the body in one section of the crusher’s interior space, the materials in that section are crushed, and during the same time, the distance between the fixed opening and the moving core in the opposite section is increasing, and the materials in that section gradually move to the lower parts and fill the available space.
Thus, the crushing operation is performed continuously, and the necessary force for it is uniform. In this type of crusher, unlike jaw crushers, there is no need for a feeder, and it can be fed directly by large mining trucks from several directions. The materials are uniformly distributed and crushed inside the crusher.
Gyratory Crushers are made in 3 different types:
-
Supported Spindle Gyratory Crusher
The Supported Spindle Gyratory Crusher is the most well-known gyratory crusher available, which is of the “short shaft” type and is maintained by a hydraulic piston.
-
Suspended Spindle Gyratory Crusher
The Suspended Spindle Gyratory Crusher is made in two types: “short shaft” and “long shaft.”
-
Fixed Spindle Gyratory Crusher
The Fixed Spindle Gyratory Crusher is fixed with two shafts from the top and bottom. The eccentric movement is relatively long and practically extends throughout the entire shaft length.
In gyratory crushers, the maximum input size is 80 to 85% of the input opening. The size of the throat of gyratory crushers can be changed by raising and lowering the moving core. The size of the crushed product depends on the throat of the crusher, and about 85% of it is smaller than the throat in the open state.

What is a Gyratory Crusher?
The Gyratory Crusher can be used as a primary crusher or a secondary crusher in sand and gravel mines. This crusher also has a very high capability in crushing hard materials and stones. Alongside the numerous features of the Gyratory Crusher, it is also very beneficial for producing sand and gravel in the required dimensions.
This crusher has a very high production capacity, which is achieved by having a large opening for material and input load. Despite its many applications in industry, especially for crushing hard materials in mines and factories, the Gyratory Crusher has a very low weight, which facilitates the transportation and installation of the device.
Another feature of gyratory crushers that increases their efficiency and popularity compared to jaw crushers among consumers is the continuous and significant development of this type of crusher.
Another feature of gyratory crushers compared to jaw crushers is that unlike jaw crushers, which operate part-time, these crushers operate full-time. Also, under similar conditions, they can have up to twice the production capacity of jaw crushers, although they consume less power.
Gyratory Crusher
Another type of cone crusher is the Gyratory Crusher. The Gyratory Crusher is similar in performance to the cone crusher, meaning it has a low slope in the material crushing area and is more parallel. Also, the Gyratory Crusher has similarities in performance with the jaw crusher and consists of a concave surface and a conical head. The Gyratory Crusher, due to its large opening, is used in the first stage of crushing and as a primary crusher. The most common application for using the Gyratory Crusher is in large factories where there is a need and high capacity for crushing materials.
Operation of the Gyratory Crusher
These cone crushers consist of two vertical incomplete cones, one of which is placed inside the other. In the Gyratory Crusher, the apex of the external body, which is conical, is downward, and the apex of the internal conical body is upward. Also, the external cover remains fixed, and the internal conical cover performs a rotational movement inside it.
The main shaft, which is at the apex of the Gyratory Crusher, does not have a complete rotational movement and rotates eccentrically. The internal cone has a small circular movement but does not rotate. The movement is created by a centrifugal force. Like some other crushers, materials between the two surfaces, which are gradually crushed, move downward until they are sufficiently crushed and can exit through the groove created between the two body surfaces.
Characteristics of the Gyratory Crusher
In the Gyratory Crusher, this part of the device is completely different and has a greater height, which makes the crusher’s input opening larger, allowing for the entry of larger stones and larger input loads, and also increases the production capacity of gravel and sand. In the Gyratory Crusher, by changing the size of the device’s eccentric or its eccentricity, the speed of passage and the size of the output load and produced materials can be changed. The Gyratory Crusher is suitable for producing high capacities and in the dimensions of coarse sand production.
Features of the Superior Crusher
- Used as a primary and secondary crusher in sand and gravel mines
- Very high capability in crushing very hard stones
- Suitable for high-tonnage sand and gravel production in mines
- High capacity due to having a large input opening in the Superior device
- Very strong structure and high resistance during crushing operation
- Wear parts made of manganese and molybdenum steel
- High efficiency and also reduced maintenance costs with three automatic lubrication systems
- Ease of transportation and installation due to low weight
