Jaw Plate Buying Guide for Jaw Crushers
One of the most essential and critical components used in a jaw crusher is the jaw plate. This part is cast and made from manganese steel with molybdenum or pure manganese steel. The jaw plate in a jaw crusher enables the breaking down of stone materials into much smaller sizes. Jaw crushers are available in various types and sizes in the market, and you can purchase jaw plates that are compatible with your crusher’s specifications.
Types of Jaw Plates in a Jaw Crusher
Jaw plates are designed and manufactured in two types: fixed jaw plate and movable jaw plate. These plates are capable of crushing rocks larger than 40 cm, making them suitable for the demands of large industries and mining operations. Below is a description of each type and its features:
Fixed Jaw Plate
The fixed jaw plate is used in the initial stage of the crushing process. It is placed opposite the movable jaw plate inside the jaw crusher. Rocks are crushed and broken into smaller sizes as they get trapped between these two plates. This component is commonly made from manganese steel, manganese steel with molybdenum, and occasionally Ni-Hard cast iron.

To choose a fixed jaw plate, it is necessary to consider the dimensions of the jaw plate, weight, material, type of design, and also the size of the input stones. For example, a 80*55 jaw plate is capable of crushing stones with a size of 520 mm. The following table shows several examples of fixed jaw plates along with their weight and material:
Fixed Jaw Plate

Movable Jaw Plate
The movable jaw plate is one of the most commonly used parts in the crusher machine. The movable jaw plate of the crusher, by moving toward the fixed jaw plate, applies pressure to the stones placed between these two jaws and causes them to be crushed.
Like the fixed jaw plate, the movable jaw plate is also produced in manganese steel, manganese molybdenum steel, and sometimes Ni-Hard cast iron, and in various sizes. Among these, the manganese molybdenum jaw plates have greater wear resistance and are used for crushing clinker, iron ore, quartzite, and other very hard materials.

The movable jaw plate is produced in various dimensions and sizes; therefore, when purchasing, special attention should be paid to the dimensions of the machine and the jaw plate. Below are the most commonly used sizes of the movable jaw plate. Note that all these jaw plates can be produced in manganese steel or manganese molybdenum steel.
Movable Jaw Plate

Accuracy in Selecting the Jaw Plate Model
When selecting jaw plates for a jaw crusher, paying attention to the design and manufacturing details of this component is of great importance. Fixed and movable jaw plates must not only be produced from durable and high-quality materials, but also be properly designed for use in various mines. One of the key factors in selecting a jaw plate is the jaw pitch; this parameter has a direct impact on the performance and durability of the machine.

In mines where the rocks have low hardness and do not require intensive crushing (such as gypsum and calcium carbonate mines), jaw plates with larger pitch can be used. Due to the wider spacing between the protrusions, these types of jaw plates perform crushing with less energy.
However, in mines with hard and resistant rocks such as iron ore, ballast, and mountain rocks, it is essential to use jaw plates with smaller pitch and closer protrusions so that crushing is done effectively and powerfully. Accurate selection of jaw plates according to mine conditions can significantly increase the lifespan and efficiency of the crusher parts.
It is worth mentioning that Avangard Company, with an experienced engineering team, designs and models various types of jaw plates based on the mine’s requirements.
• Advantages of jaw plates with larger pitch: Suitable for softer mines requiring less crushing. • Importance of smaller pitch design: For effective crushing of hard and resistant stones. • Factors in jaw plate selection: Type of mine, hardness of rocks, and required level of crushing. • Improved crusher performance through proper selection: Choosing the right jaw plate increases the durability and performance of the machine.
