Ferro Niobium is a functional ferroalloy made from the combination of niobium and iron. Generally, to produce this ferroalloy, 30 to 40 percent iron is mixed with 60 to 70 percent niobium. This ferroalloy has numerous applications in the production of stainless steels, various tools, and oil pipes, which has attracted special attention to its market. Production of Ferro Niobium

To produce Ferro Niobium, initially, niobium oxide is extracted from ore using the aluminothermic reduction process. If the niobium ore does not contain enough iron, iron is added to it. The main raw materials include columbite and pyrochlore concentrates. Concentrates that contain a lower percentage of niobium (around 40 percent) can also be used in the aluminothermic process in an electric arc furnace.

There is also a two-stage electroaluminothermic process for producing Ferro Niobium. In this stage, the composition of niobium concentrate with the necessary materials is first added to reactive reactors. Then the entire mixture, along with a special exothermic mixture, is ignited. The melt solidifies and the metal block is separated from the slag. Finally, after cooling, Ferro Niobium is cut into the required sizes.
