Ferrosilicon Calcium

Ferrosilicon calcium (CaSi), also known as CaSi, is used for desulfurization and deoxidation in the production of high-grade steels. Silicon and calcium have high oxygen absorption capabilities, especially calcium, which has this property not only for oxygen but also for sulfur and nitrogen. 90% of the consumption of this alloy is in the steel industry.

Ferrosilicon calcium is used to control the size, shape, lamination, malleability, and other specifications of steel. CaSi or ferrosilicon calcium is a material added to increase the melting pour speed in steel. Additionally, increasing heat and degassing are other properties of CaSi. Silicon calcium can be prepared in lump sizes and 3 to 10 millimeters. The specifications of this material are described in the table below.

Production of Ferrosilicon Calcium

Ferrosilicon calcium is one of the widely used industrial ferroalloys produced from the combination of three elements: iron, calcium, and silicon. Other elements are also present in this product, but their weight percentage is much lower than the three elements mentioned above, and they will be mentioned in the ferrosilicon calcium analysis section.

Factories producing ferrosilicon calcium melt iron and silicon elements in arc furnaces and add calcium to them. Currently, they mostly have a relatively similar weight percentage, and their differences are mainly in size and dimensions, which will be discussed in the types of ferrosilicon calcium section. However, manufacturers can produce ferrosilicon calcium with specific percentages of different elements based on the needs of their customers.

Applications of Ferrosilicon Calcium

As mentioned, the main application of ferrosilicon calcium is in the steel production industry, and more than 90 percent of these products are used in this industry. The elements present in this ferroalloy can act as deoxidizers in steel and also absorb other impurities, including nitrogen and sulfur.

Using ferrosilicon calcium in the steel production process significantly improves the quality and performance of the final alloy and can have a major impact on various properties of the steel, such as resistance to oxidation, malleability, hardness, melt pour speed, shape and size control, lamination, and more.
